The Eco-Printed Journal Workshop
Learn the basics of eco-printing on paper
while you create a one-of-a-kind botanical print filled journal
In this workshop you will:
|
Join me for a live Zoom workshop that will meet for two, 2 1/2 hour sessions and one 1 1/2 hour session over three consecutive weeks.
You'll learn the basics of making eco-prints on a variety of papers and create a gate fold style journal.
I'll be making it super easy for you by mailing a supply kit (to US addresses only*) that includes just about all the supplies you'll need.
*If you are outside of the US and are interested in taking this workshop without the class kit please contact me for more information.
At the end of each class you will be sent a link to the Zoom recording. The recordings will be available to you for one year.
Day 1 - Eco-printing preparation
I'll explain the magical process of extracting pigment from leaves and flowers that is used to make botanical prints. Then you'll be walked through each step of preparing 2 layered bundles, one for the journal pages, one for smaller sized plant portraits and a rolled bundle for the journal cover. You'll add extra papers (supplied in your class kit) to the bundles so you'll have additional eco-printed papers to use in your journal or for another project of your choice.
You'll get step-by-step instructions for heating the prepared bundles so you'll be all set to get "cooking" at your convenience once the first class is done. I'll also go over the steps to get you prepared for the following weeks session.

Just wanted to tell you how extremely enjoyable and informative this class was!
I am really impressed with the meticulousness with which you prepared all the materials and your entire presentation.
I learned a lot, and I am thrilled with the results I’ve seen so far. You have really inspired me to try some new things.

“Thank you Kathy! I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this class and appreciate all you have so generously shared with us.
I learned so much. I can’t wait to work with the beautiful papers I dyed and I’ve already begun collecting and drying
some leaves growing here around my house. I look forward to another class with you soon.”

Day 2 - Assembling the journal
This is where it all comes together. You'll stitch the pocket edges, attach the closure ribbons, assemble the folded papers into signatures, stitch the journal signatures to the cover using a modified pamphlet stitch binding.
I'll show you how to make a mini book inside your journal and share ideas for decorative additions you can make to your journal pages such as collage, stitching, windows and ways to use the tags and other papers you printed.

Day 3 - Show and tell
We'll get together one last time so you can share your favorite journal pages with the class and ask any final questions.
I'll also show you how I press my flowers and explain several different ways for storing leaves and flowers for future use. To end I'll take you on a short slide and video tour of my eco-print garden.
Did I mention that I'll be making it super easy for you?
