The Eco-Printed Journal Workshop
What you will need to supply:
- Glass jars with lids that can hold 2 cups (16 oz.) & hot water - one to mix alum and one to mix iron water
- Small container to hold iron water - so you can dip the small 2.5" x 3.5" papers on day 2
- Protective table cover for your working area & rags or old towels for clean up
- 2 inch brush for applying the alum
- Pair of disposable gloves - alum can be drying, and iron will stain your hands
- Three - 6.75" x 9.5" & two - 3" x 4" pieces of cardboard (book board, heavy chipboard, back of a sketchbook or drawing paper pad - Grain direction does not matter, these are just to protect the paper in your bundles
- Twine/string - for wrapping the bundles
- Small cup and a spoon to help with applying flower sprinkles
- Optional: tweezers (can be helpful in placing and removing plant material)
- A rusty can so you can try the process from my demo on day 2 (you will receive a link to a video that explains how you can quickly rust a can)
- Piece of paper to fit around the rusty can - Watercolor paper or cardstock is preferable for sturdiness, but any paper can work.
- Small amount of PVA glue or similar white glue
- Small flat bristle brush for glue
- Sewing needle and sewing thread or embroidery thread for stitching pockets
- Glue stick
- Ruler
- Awl
- pencil
For 'cooking' your bundles
- Potholder and tongs for handling hot bundles.
- Stock pot or roasting pan with a lid - something that will no longer be used for cooking food and is large enough to accommodate the 6.75" x 9.5" journal bundle. See FAQ's for more options
- Water
- Portable electric burner or hot plate
- An outside area where you can set up to heat your bundles (for safety reasons, this should not be done in your kitchen)
