A sketchbook is your creative playground—a place to try things out, make notes, and experiment freely.
It’s where you can be bold, messy, thoughtful, or spontaneous. Nothing has to be precious.
It’s all about discovering what works for you and what doesn’t, in a low-pressure space that supports your growth.
This is a live Zoom workshop that will meet for 2 hour sessions on 5 consecutive Thursdays.
Can’t attend live? No problem — each class is recorded, and video links will be emailed to all registered participants within 24 hours. Each session includes short demos and plenty of hands-on collage time. We start with a “speed collage” warm-up to get you loosened up. In Week 1, we’ll explore minimal-style collage. In the following weeks, we’ll dive into more complex approaches, focusing on composition, color, pattern, texture, and layering. I’ll offer prompts to help guide you in choices of papers and colors, plus optional exercises to help you build on each week’s lesson between sessions.

When you register, you’ll receive links to two introductory videos: one is a welcome video full of ideas on where to find and what kinds of items to consider when building a collection of materials for collage; the other demonstrates my favorite technique for creating textured tissue papers using acrylic washes—great for achieving translucent, layered effects. Throughout the five-week workshop, you’ll also receive several additional “how-to” videos with techniques for making your own collage materials by painting, stamping, and distressing various papers. All the papers you create can be used in class—and you’ll likely have plenty left over for future projects. |
add texture with bits of nature, stitching and non-paper items
