Mailscape Collage Workshop
See your Junk Mail in a whole new light!
Join me for a 3 day live Zoom workshop packed full of fun collage projects.
|
This is a live Zoom workshop that will meet for two hours on 3 consecutive Thursdays. The workshop will be recorded so if you aren't able to attend all 3 class dates you'll have access to the recordings to catch up on the projects. You'll receive a handout with the supply list and a schedule of the projects you'll be making for each of the 3 days. Included will be printable pages of: security envelope patterns in a variety of colors, bar codes and other postal symbols and postmarked stamps to use if you don't have access to your own or that can be used in combination with the ones you do have. I'll provide botanical line drawings, and tag & envelope templates.
A link to the Zoom recordings will be sent at the end of each class and will be available for one year. |
Day 1 - Mailscape collages
On the first day you'll be working in a square format to create a landscape, cityscape and abstract collage. We'll go over some collage basics, how to choose and combine patterns successfully, using torn edges versus cut edges, and how you might incorporate the different parts of an envelope and its printed symbols into your collages.

Day 2 - Botanical collage and tags
Sketch a simple botanical shape or choose one from the supplied printable. Play with the positive and negative space of the cutouts to create two collages in a minimalistic style. Gather up all the scraps and cut offs you’ve saved from days 1 and 2 and create tags using three different techniques.

Day 3 - Envelopes from envelopes and more
You'll make 2 kinds of envelopes, one using the supplied template and the other using an easy origami method of folding. I'll introduce you to a few of my favorite artists that make their work from recycled materials. I'll share tips on how to organize and store a collection of envelopes along with lots of ideas for more fun ways you can use security envelope patterns. We'll end with a show and tell of any work you'd like to share and a Q & A.
