For the Valentines
4-6 pieces of watercolor paper cut to 3 inches x 4 inches Pan watercolors (or any watercolor paints you have) Large round soft bristle brush 2 cups for water Plastic wrap – you can repurpose grocery and produce type bags. They should be thin like plastic wrap (Saran) Salt 2 blank cards & 2 envelopes (I'll be using a folded size of 4 inches x 5 inches but you can use any size that accommodates the 3" x 4" watercolor paper base) Foil candy wrappers – see note and photo below 4 Cotton swabs (Q-Tips) – these will be used for burnishing the foil wrappers 1 piece of 8.5 x 11 lightweight copy paper to print out the placement and stitching template 1 piece of 8.5 x 11 index/cover weight paper to print out the heart shapes Small and large scissors Exacto blade Cutting mat White glue (PVA, Elmer’s, Aleene’s, any kind you have will be fine) Small flat bristle brush for glue Embroidery needle 6 strand embroidery floss – colors to coordinate with your candy wrappers and painted backgrounds Pin or small point awl to pierce holes in paper Small piece of corrugated cardboard – 3 inches x 4 inches or larger Small round or heart shaped buttons (optional) For the Valentine envelope 1 piece of 8.5 x 11 index/cover weight paper to print out the heart envelope template 1 piece of 8.5 x 11 or larger decorative paper (scrap book paper works well for this, one sided or 2 sided. Card stock is too heavy. |
Note
The 2 cards to the left are what I’ll be demonstrating during the class. They use 2 red, 2 silver (can use aluminum foil), 1 dark purple, 1 light purple and 1 pink wrapper the approximate size you get with a Hershey's candy Kiss or Dove® Promises® chocolate pieces . If you don't have these colors, substitute whatever you can find and adjust your watercolor backgrounds to coordinate. |
