Let's create a spring-inspired zine!
In less than an hour, I’ll show you how to make a zine (a mini book) from a single piece of paper and share easy, playful collage ideas inspired by the beauty of spring. You're welcome to collage along with me or just watch the demo and create your zine later. Toward the end, I'll also share a bit about my Sketchbook Collage Workshop starting in June, along with some extra collage ideas you might want to try in future zines.

 Got your glue stick ready?

Supply list:
  • One piece of paper – 8.5” x 11” copy paper (a light color or painted on one side) or 9” x 12” drawing paper, painted on one side. If painting your paper, think daffodil yellow, crocus purple, new-growth green, robin’s egg blue—or whatever says "spring" to you. Keep the colors soft, as this will be your collage background.
  • Graph paper or other lightly patterned paper
  • Cut-out images of flowers, leaves, birds, butterflies, etc., from magazines or seed catalogs, or your own photos (4–5 images are plenty)
  • Strips of solid(ish) color - can be scrap book paper or cut from a magazine
  • Glue stick
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or cutting blade
  • Cutting mat
  • Optional - washi tape
  • Optional: a short spring quote or poem

See examples of collages created during the live Zoom class here.

About World Collage Day
World Collage Day, initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018, is an annual international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May. Artists and art venues are invited to hold events on that day to celebrate the art of collage. World collage day is about artists connecting across borders and about sharing an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking.
