World Collage Day, initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018, is an annual international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May. They invite artists and art venues to hold events on that day to celebrate collage. World collage day is about artists connecting across borders and about sharing an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms in new ways of thinking.

Let's celebrate World Collage Day by creating some speed collages!
Don't think you can make a collage in 3 minutes? Well, I bet you can, actually I know you can. Kind of like speed dating - but here you can't make a bad impression : )  The small collages we'll be making in short spurts are the kind I love to do as warm up exercises or just for fun so I can use up my small scraps of paper. Working within a limited amount of time will help keep you from over thinking. You dive right into the process and your choices become more intuitive since you have to work quickly to complete the goal of gluing down papers and filling the allotted space before the timer goes off. Ready to take on the challenge? It will be lots of fun and we'll keep it loose and relaxed. At the end I'll share some news about my new Sketchbook Collage Workshop that's coming in June. I'm super excited about this new class!
Have a look at the very short supply list below
and start gathering some collage papers in colors you would like to work with.

   Supply list:
  • Glue stick
  • Sketchbook, a piece of card stock or watercolor paper - something that gives you room to sketch out four 2-2.5 inch squares on the paper.
  • Collage papers - paper scraps, book pages, painted papers, tissue paper, wrapping paper, security envelope patterns, sheet music, scrapbook paper, maps, etc.
  • Old magazine, catalog or scrap papers to glue on to keep your table surface free of glue.
